The land The Vortex sits on was once nothing more than a desolate, seemingly lifeless forest covered realm.  The only living being was an old wizard alchemist named Agamar.  Alone in his rickety house, he sought a way to restore life to the once bountiful area.  After years of endless dedication, he found his answer; a portal.  If the land was void of life, he would bring new life in, pulling from the dimensions existing outside of his current time and space.

With all his power and energy, he opened up a vortex of immeasurable power.  As time and space warped around it, people and creatures from all different places were drawn in.  Some were mythical or from the ancient past, some were scientists and inventors, some were evil, some were good, and some were just regular humans.  It didn't matter who they were to Agamar, he just wanted the balance restored.  He saw visions of the future and it made his old heart soar.

As the portal closed, all that remained was a faint swirling vortex on the forest floor.  Having spent all his energy, Agamar had given his life to create one of the most incredible lands to ever exist.

Thousands of years later, the site of The Vortex is regarded as sacred.  A tomb honoring Agamar was constructed, keeping his final resting place and The Vortex safe from those with ill intentions.

 

The site of The Vortex itself is protected by a group known as The Guardians, a band of powerful, god-like beings created by the dying wizard to maintain the balance of life after he passed.
