Recently, reports of a portal being activated in the basement of Steam City scientist Dr. Timothy Simmons have surfaced. The scientist was allegedly trying to create a device that would allow him to freely travel through the space time continuum. It is believed that the experiment failed and instead of allowing free travel, it became locked on a few specific moments in time and place. Neighbors who had been invited to witness the activation of the device report that it appeared to form a gateway to at least three different lands, the view of these other lands flickering in the swirling vortex of energy making up the portal.

Inspectors arrived at the scene, only to discover the device had been moved to another location, possibly to protect the portal from falling into the wrong hands. Energy sweeps of the area have lead some to believe that the portal's new location could be somewhere in the underground fallout shelter beneath the city.
