Avery Teach is the daughter of the infamous pirate lord, Blackbeard, also known as Edward Teach. Known for his merciless cruelty and greedy ways, he scoured the seas in his beloved ship, the "Queen Anne's Revenge." He took on any ship he came across, terrifying most by just the site of his soldering beard and arsenal of cannons. Many described him as appearing as the devil himself.

If a ship surrendered everything without a fight, they'd be allowed to live.  But, should even one gun be raised, he would have everyone slaughtered.  It is because of this that he became the most feared pirate to ever sail.

Though he had a main wife, Mary, he had about twelve other wives and slept with many prostitutes. He had many children among all these women, though most never stepped aboard his ship as the majority were born on land.

But Avery was different. Avery was born earlier than expected while Blackbeard and Mary were out at sea. Seeing a girl had been born to them, Blackbeard was furious. Women were considered to be bad luck aboard a ship, and there was already one of them. Superstition was extreme important to pirates. Even though He would have preferred the child be thrown overboard, he permitted her to stay as per Mary's wishes.

Avery grew up in the shadow of her father, never really able to earn his approval. She tried to be as fearless and as deadly as he, but her attempts were all in vain and she couldn't understand why. The crew accepted her more than her father, but in the end she could care less what the crew thought. She desperately wanted her father to accept her.

When Avery turned 21, her father's ship docked at Port Royal as it did on numerous occasions throughout their travels. Port Royal was a sort of pirate haven. Nearly 90% of the population was made up of traveling pirates. The remaining 10% was made up of locals, most of whom were either bartenders, smugglers, gamblers and prostitutes. It was considered by many to be the island of sin.

Like the other pirates, Avery too gambled, drank, smoke, partook in illegal trading and... spent time with prostitutes. She had learned by example, what the crew did she did. She'd never been interested in a relationship, it all seemed too domestic for her adventurous heart.

But that changed when she met Callie Nichols, one of the islands favored prostitutes. She was funny, carefree, and in Avery's eyes, staggeringly beautiful. Callie returned her feelings and the two began to see each other in secret. To the fury of many of the island's visitors, Callie ended her days as a prostitute, wanting to be loyal to only Avery. And when they found out why, their fury grew tenfold. Figuring it out was easy, despite their secrecy. Avery had never been in love before and she couldn't stop her eyes from lighting up when she saw Callie.

Her father in particular was enraged, and for two reasons. One, he resented Avery and anything that brought her happiness; and two, one of his favorite prostitutes was now out of service.

The night before Avery was to set sail, she spent the evening with Callie. She promised she would be back as soon as her travels would allow and Callie promised she would wait.

But with a father like Blackbeard, falling in love is the same as falling into disaster. He kidnapped Avery's lover and set sail with her locked up below the deck. Avery tried desperately to free her, but there was nothing she could do.

The next morning, about five miles out to sea, Blackbeard had Callie blindfolded and made Avery watch as she was forced to walk to the end of the plank. He was to cruel to simply allow her to step off and instead, shot her. Her body fell to the depths below. Avery screamed and broke free, diving into the water, foolishly believing there was something she could do to save her.

Her father laughed and waved good riddance to his daughter as he sailed away. Avery held onto Callie, trying to keep her head above water. She swam the long 5 mile distance back to shore, realizing once she got there that Callie was already gone. Heartbroken, she buried her love, vowing to end her father's life and avenge the life that had been lost.
