Nyx Aldaran...once a member of the Aldaran crime family that ran in the dark alleys and Underground of Steam City and The Metro. Being a rather dangerous lot, they smuggled all sorts of illegal goods and weren't afraid to kill if they had to. Nyx, named in honor of the night, didn't much care for this lifestyle but she was trapped in it. Part of her enjoyed the excitement and reward, but when situations turned bloody, she couldn't handle it. There was something inside her that opposed that aspect of crime.

One night, she witnessed her crime family shoot down five people from a warring gang. She got scared and ran off, all the way into the forest of Valara. She finally came to rest at the base of a tree, her head placed in her hands. Nyx called out to the night for guidance. And then, out of nowhere, a firefly appeared before her.

The adolescent watched the little firefly and was mystified. It was a beautiful little creature and brought her comfort. It wasn't long before it started to fly away, guiding her to a village of elvish people in Valara, just outside the city limits. The creature then vanished into thin air as the elder of the elves approached her, Mirdan.

His ears were far longer than the rest and his beard nearly reached two feet in length. Though fearful at first, his calm eyes let her know there was no reason to be afraid.

He took her inside and explained that he had a vision of her long ago, and had sent the firefly to guide her to his people. She wasn't destined to be a thief. Her destiny was far greater than that, he explained.

The wise elder took the girl under his wing and taught her the way of his people, accepting her as family. She learned to speak elvish and partook in their traditions. Her favorite was their tradition of story telling. Every night she sat at the fire and listened to them speak of the glorious and colorful tales of their people. It instilled in her a love of storytelling, a love she pursued later when she took the job as a reporter for The Daily Steam.

She continued on with the elves until her 22nd birthday. Mirdan bestowed unto Nyx a great gift and treasure of his people. A bright golden amulet that gave the wearer the ability to astral project. It was a very dangerous thing to do, but it was something to be used in times of great emergency only.

He then revealed to her one of the prophecies of his people. He told Nyx that she was destined to be a bringer of light, the opposite of the world she had been born into. Mirdan told her it was time to part ways, and that she must go back to Steam City and help drive out the criminals that walked the streets at night.

He warned her to be secretive, for if anyone knew her identity, she would be in grave danger. The elder had been training her over the years she was under his watch, teaching her how to be agile like his people and to move swiftly. Mirdan knew she was ready.

They constructed her a black suit made of leather armor, hoping it would help her blend in and offer some protection. Dressed like this, she began patrolling the streets in secrecy, finding crime and doing her best to stop it.

She soon gained the name "Firefly" given to her due to the glowing gold amulet she would wear.

With her job at the Daily Steam, and need to make visits back to her Elven family, and fight crime, she's been slowly figuring out how to balance it all. She has also been working to make upgrades to her armor and weapons. Luckily, since Steam City is the hub of invention, it wasn't hard for her to find a very capable inventor to work with on these matters.

She is relatively new to her dual life, and had a lot to learn about fighting crime. But she's up for the challenge.
