Rory was born to the sweetest parents a kid could want. Ronnie and Rosie Woodford, owners of a tailoring shop in Valara. Her younger sister, Randi, took after their parents. She was sweet, loving, helpful.... But Rory was different. She loved her family, but Valara grew boring for her. Responsibility wasn't something she wanted, nor was helping in their parents' shop. She began meeting people, some of them being not so good influences. They got her on the wrong side of the tracks, introducing her to cigarettes and alcohol. She got hooked. No longer could she be satisfied with her life, she needed something more.
At age 13, Rory decided to run away. She changed her name from Rory Woodford to Denver Hansen, leaving her life behind. The time for the mundane was over, she was bound for adventure.
Finding herself in Steam City. She was in awe of the city and all it’s strange machines and technology. She got herself a job at a factory, helping to build all kinds of flying machines and contraptions. It was here that she discovered her passion; aviation. To explore the sky would be like nothing else imaginable in her eyes. Her life began turning around. She became focused and determined. She broke ties with her bad friends and began making new ones.
By the age of 18, she had learned everything she could about the mystery of flight, and through research had taught herself the basic principles of how to be a pilot. She enlisted in the Steam City Air Corpse. This team of elite fighters was Steam City’s main defense against enemies such as The Shadow Realm. The danger, the thrill, the notion of heroism; it all appealed to her.
One fateful day, The Shadow Realm launched an assault, aiming to capture the ancient Ruins of Tahi. Knowing the sacred power held within the ancient city, the SCAC was put into action to protect it’s secrets. A battle ensued, The Shadow Realm’s fighters on their armored dragons and the SCAC in their flying machines. As the battle ensued, dark clouds circled overhead and rain and lightning consumed the area in a violent storm.
Rory (Deni) fought fearlessly, taking down many enemy fighters despite the difficult conditions. She had something to protect, and even the risk of death was worth taking. She was no longer a rebellious teen, but a hero in the making. In her heart, she hoped that by fighting so hard, she was making the world a better place for the family she'd left behind.
While flying in to back up another pilot who was being overwhelmed, a stray lightning bolt struck her aircraft, causing her navigation and steering controls to malfunction. Before she could regain control, a missile struck her aircraft and it plummeted to the ground, landing in a small explosion.
Barely alive, she was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the Atlantean Hospital. In a medical miracle, she was saved, though with great difficulty. Much of her body had been destroyed in the battle, and the only way the doctors could save her was to replace certain parts with cybernetics including her right hand and most of her left leg. Various bones had to be replaced as well as many were beyond repair.
Unsure if she will she ever fly again, she is still learning how to adjust to her new situation and learning to accept all the changes she will face. Though given a medal of bravery for her acts of valor, she feels as though something will always be missing.
These past years have given Rory time to reflect on her past. Her mind keeps going back to her days of reckless youth. She had betrayed her family...abandoned them. And now she has to come clean. She must say goodbye to the decorated and honored Denver Hansen, and say hello to Rory Woodford, the failure.
